7-Eleven Japan Exclusive! 3 New Items Including First-Ever nana’s green tea Collaboration Matcha Parfait Released April 28

7-Eleven, Japan’s largest convenience store (Konbini) chain, will sequentially release three limited-edition matcha ice cream products across Japan starting April 28, 2026. This special project celebrates “Ice Cream Day” on May 9.

As the scarcity of tea leaves increases due to the global matcha boom, this lineup features luxurious premium Uji matcha from Kyoto. Highlights include the first-ever joint development with “nana’s green tea,” a pioneer of Japanese tea cafes, and a renewed version of a masterpiece that caused a stir at the 2025 Osaka/Kansai Expo.

The History of “Ice Cream Day” (May 9) and Japanese Konbini Culture

History of Ice Cream Day in Japan

In Japan, May 9 is widely celebrated as “Ice Cream Day.” This anniversary was established in 1964 by the Japan Ice Cream Association for sales promotion.

The history of ice cream in Japan began in 1869 when a shop on Bashamichi Street in Yokohama sold it under the name “Aisu-kurin.” Yokohama was known at the time as a port city that was among the first to adopt Western culture.

Today, various events are held across Japan to coincide with this anniversary. 7-Eleven has prepared an even more luxurious lineup than usual to reinforce the impression that “Ice Cream Day means 7-Eleven.” The goal is to provide a “petit luxury” (small indulgence) moment where people can relax with the scent of matcha amidst their busy daily lives.

Using 100% Uji Matcha! “Waffle Cone Matcha Milk” with a Secret Ingredient

7-Premium Waffle Cone Matcha Milk

A new addition is also coming to the popular Waffle Cone series from 7-Eleven’s private brand, “7-Premium.”

Using 100% Uji matcha from Kyoto, the bitterness of the matcha and the sweetness of the milk are perfectly balanced. It has an elegant taste, as if a “Matcha Latte” popular in Japanese cafes was turned directly into ice cream.

A hint of “salt” is added as a secret ingredient to further highlight the richness of the milk and the flavor of the matcha. Additionally, the waffle cone uses “Kuroto” (brown sugar), enhancing the overall quality as a Japanese sweet with its fragrant and crispy texture. As it is a limited quantity item, early purchase is recommended.

Evolution of an Expo Masterpiece! “Takumi-cha Monaka”
