7-Eleven, Japan’s leading “Konbini” (convenience store), is introducing a new masterpiece to its “Hot Snack Counter” (the heated display area next to the register). Starting Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the chain will progressively roll out its “Fried Takoyaki” (available in 3-piece and 6-piece packs) across Japan. These are finished in the store’s own deep fryers to ensure “freshly cooked quality” and an authentic taste.

The Secret to Quality: Freshly Fried In-Store
The most notable feature of this new product is the cooking process, where the final frying takes place right in the store’s kitchen. Rather than simply reheating items prepared in a factory, the final touch is added at each location. This method maximizes the potential of the batter, creating a texture that stands out.
The moment you take a bite, the aroma of “Dashi” (traditional Japanese savory soup stock) fills your mouth, complemented by a melt-in-your-mouth interior—a high-quality consistency only achievable through this specific cooking method.

The batter is infused with a rich, bonito-based Dashi, designed to deliver a deep seafood umami in every bite. Because the savory flavor is so well-integrated, the takoyaki is delicious even on its own, though specific touches have been added to further enhance the experience.
Large Octopus Chunks for a Luxurious Bite
The star of any Takoyaki (wheat-based “octopus balls”) is, of course, the octopus itself. This version uses generously sized chunks of octopus (roughly 0.5 to 0.7 inches / 1.5 to 2 cm).
The elasticity of the octopus combined with the piping-hot batter creates a level of satisfaction that exceeds typical convenience store expectations.

Furthermore, great care has been taken with the “separate sauce and mayonnaise.” Instead of being pre-applied, they are provided in individual packets for you to add just before eating. This ensures that the crispy texture of the freshly fried batter isn’t lost, allowing you to enjoy the dish in its best possible state.
Two Sizes to Fit Your Needs
The rollout features two options: a 3-piece pack, perfect for a quick snack or as a side dish, and a 6-piece pack for those looking for a more substantial meal.
