Lawson, one of Japan’s leading convenience store chains (known locally as “Konbini”), is collaborating with Hattendo, a specialty sweets shop originating from Hiroshima. A total of five new sweets and pastries will be released sequentially across Japan starting April 21, 2026. This collaboration puts the spotlight on Hattendo’s signature “melting custard,” with an enticing lineup rolling out over two weeks. Enjoy a special fusion of high-quality “Konbini” sweets from the Uchi Café series and the traditional flavors of a renowned specialty shop.

What is Hiroshima’s Long-standing “Hattendo”? Artisan-crafted Custard
Hattendo is a historic specialty shop founded in 1933 in Mihara City, Hiroshima Prefecture. Their “Chilled Cream Bun,” which became extremely famous in Japan after its 2008 release, is loved by many fans. Hattendo’s custard is characterized by its smooth, rich flavor, heartfully crafted by artisans to bring joy to every customer. In this collaboration, their traditional techniques have teamed up with Lawson’s popular sweets brand, “Uchi Café.”
[Phase 1] Released April 21: 3 Custard Items to Welcome Spring
Starting April 21, 2026, the first three products will appear on Lawson shelves nationwide. The lineup focuses on fruit pairings and unique new textures.
Hattendo Supervised Custard Fruit Mix Sandwich

A Japanese-style fruit sandwich featuring a generous amount of rich custard whipped cream supervised by Hattendo.

- Features: Sandwiched with strawberries, yellow peaches, and refreshing mandarin oranges. The deep flavor of the custard and the acidity of the fruit match perfectly, creating a luxurious treat where every bite offers a different taste.
Uchi Café × Hattendo Melting Custard Tart

A decadent three-layered tart that lets you savor the custard to your heart’s content.
- Release Date: Pre-release currently available since Tuesday, April 7, 2026 (Released after the evening in Akita/Aomori areas; not available in Okinawa area)
- Price: 254 yen (approx. $1.69 USD)
- Features: A crispy tart shell filled with melting custard and topped with vanilla-scented custard whipped cream. The slightly bitter caramel and caramel chips on the surface further enhance the sweet custard flavor.
- Note: This product contains alcohol (less than 1%) in its ingredients.
Uchi Café × Hattendo Fluffy Custard Sandwich

A new sensation of custard sweets pastry that offers an incredibly light texture.
- Release Date: Tuesday, April 21, 2026, around evening
- Price: 248 yen (approx. $1.65 USD) (259 yen (approx. $1.73 USD) in Okinawa)
- Features: Features a fluffy white dough baked using egg whites. Inside, two types of cream are sandwiched: a rich custard blended with fresh cream and a light whipped cream. The “melt-in-your-mouth” texture is its main appeal.
[Phase 2] Released April 28: Banana Crepe and East-meets-West Daifuku
Two more unique items will be added starting April 28, the second week of the collaboration.
Uchi Café × Hattendo Custard Banana Crepe

A satisfying crepe where you can enjoy a whole banana, which pairs perfectly with custard.
- Release Date: Tuesday, April 28, 2026 (Released after the evening in Akita/Aomori areas; not available in Okinawa area)
- Price: 329 yen (approx. $2.19 USD)
- Features: Uses two types of cream: custard whipped cream made with Hokkaido fresh cream and a rich custard cream. A fresh banana is wrapped in a white crepe dough for a voluminous treat.
Uchi Café × Hattendo Custard Daifuku

A fusion of East and West, filling a traditional Japanese “Daifuku” (a chewy mochi rice cake sweet) with Western-style custard.
- Release Date: Tuesday, April 28, 2026, around evening
- Price: 225 yen (approx. $1.50 USD) (Not available in Okinawa area)
- Features: A custard sauce with a strong egg flavor is enclosed within a custard mousse. You can enjoy the contrast between the soft texture of the mochi and the rich custard flowing out from inside.
