Tohoku Exclusive! “Chewy White Koppe Pan with Apple & Whipped Cream,” Developed by Iwate High School Students, Launches at Lawson

On November 4, 2025, the Japanese convenience store chain Lawson will release a special bread product developed in collaboration with students from Iwate Prefectural Morioka Agricultural High School. Its name is the “Chewy White Koppe Pan with Apple & Whipped Cream.” This product, filled with local pride, will be sold exclusively in Japan’s Tohoku region. It will be available for 160 yen (including tax) at approximately 1,175 Lawson stores in the Tohoku area.

A Specially Crafted Flavor Packed with the Blessings of Iwate

The greatest appeal of this product lies in its generous use of ingredients nurtured by the rich nature of Iwate Prefecture. The bread dough partially uses flour from Iwate, giving it a ‘mottiri’ or chewy texture, just as the name suggests. The gentle sweetness of the white koppe pan enhances the flavors of the two creams sandwiched inside.

The first cream is a whipped cream made using milk from Iwate Prefecture. It features a rich milky flavor yet has a light texture. The second is a cream containing crisp apple pulp. Iwate Prefecture is one of Japan’s leading apple producers, and their fresh, sweet-and-tart flavor is exceptional. When these two creams come together, they create an exquisite harmony that allows you to fully experience the deliciousness of Iwate.

A Bread Born from the Passion of High School Students

The “Chewy White Koppe Pan with Apple & Whipped Cream” is not just delicious; it also has a heartwarming story behind its development. This product was conceived by students from the Department of Food Science at Morioka Agricultural High School, who are studying local agriculture. In fact, it was the top idea, chosen from among 117 different proposals.

The students involved in the development had a strong desire to “revitalize our community using products from our home, Iwate Prefecture,” and to create something “that people of all ages, from children to the elderly, would want to try.” Their pure passion and innovative ideas took shape through the joint development with Lawson.

The 8th Installment of a Popular Collaboration

The joint development between Lawson and Morioka Agricultural High School marks the eighth installment of this popular project. This initiative is part of a comprehensive partnership agreement signed between Lawson and Iwate Prefecture in 2008, aiming to promote the healthy development of young people and the local production for local consumption (chisan-chisho).

Last year’s product, the “Mochi-Fuwu Koppe (Blueberry Jelly & Whip)” released in 2024, became a major hit, selling over 50,000 units and gaining strong support, particularly from customers in their 40s and 50s. This success story proves that the students’ ideas accurately capture market needs, naturally raising expectations for this new product.

This “Chewy White Koppe Pan with Apple & Whipped Cream” is a special, limited-time treat that fuses the natural blessings of Iwate with the passion of the high school students who will shape the future. If you have the chance to visit the Tohoku region, why not look for it at a nearby Lawson? This special, region-exclusive flavor might just become a wonderful memory of your trip.
