Valentine’s Day in Japanese Konbini: 3 New Chocolate Sweets from Lawson

image

In Japan, February is the season for Valentine’s Day. During this time, not only department stores but also Konbini (convenience stores) across Japan are lined with many chocolate products. For 2026, Lawson has strengthened its lineup of chocolate sweets to match this season.

Japanese Konbini sweets are known for a quality that rivals specialty shops. This time, we introduce three new items with distinct textures and flavors: a classic tart, a roll cake where you can enjoy Japan’s unique “Mochi texture (Chewy texture),” and a chilled cream bun.

Uchi Café Raw Chocolate Tart

The first item we’ll introduce is a new version of the tart, a staple of convenience store sweets. The “Raw Chocolate (Nama Choco)” in the product name refers to chocolate mixed with fresh cream, creating a melt-in-the-mouth texture.

The feature of this product lies in the tart crust. Instead of the usual plain dough, it uses a bittersweet chocolate dough. Furthermore, it has a layered structure. This allows you to strongly feel the aroma of cacao while keeping the sweetness in check.

For the topping, two layers of cream are used. By layering creams with different firmness and flavors, you can enjoy changes in texture and aftertaste the moment you eat it. Although it is a size you can eat with one hand, it offers the satisfaction of a sweet from a cake shop.

Uchi Café Crispy Chocolate Mochi Texture Roll (Strawberry Cream)

A very popular series in Lawson’s sweets corner is the “Mochi Texture Roll.” “Mochi” refers to traditional Japanese rice cakes, and this cake features a unique elastic texture similar to mochi.

The key point of this new release is the “Crispy” texture. Inside the soft, chewy sponge cake, a hard chocolate bar accent is added. You can enjoy a different texture every time you chew.

The cream inside is strawberry cream, which pairs well with chocolate. The sweetness of the chocolate and the acidity of the strawberry is an undeniable combination. Also, the contrast between the black chocolate and the pink cream is visually beautiful. Since this product is pre-cut into several slices, it is also suitable for sharing with friends.

Uchi Café Plenty of Cream! Fluffy & Chewy Chilled Cream Bun Double Chocolate

Finally, we introduce the “Chilled Cream Bun,” which will be released one week after the previous two items. This is sold not in the room-temperature bread aisle, but in the refrigerated sweets corner. In recent years, “bread eaten chilled” like this has been gaining popularity in Japan.

The dough has a “Fluffy and Chewy” texture. Inside, there are two types of fillings: chocolate whipped cream and chocolate sauce. The appeal of “Double Chocolate” is being able to taste the light melt-in-the-mouth whipped cream and the rich sauce at the same time.

It has a simple appearance, but the texture of the dough and the balance of the cream are carefully calculated. The affordable price of 192 Yen is also attractive. It is the perfect item to accompany an afternoon coffee break.
