Enjoy the Bounty of Alaska at FamilyMart! Delicious and Sustainable Seafood Products Arrive

Japanese convenience store chain FamilyMart is launching a new line of appealing products featuring wild seafood from Alaska, sourced from sustainable fisheries that protect the future of our oceans. Timed for “Good Fish Week” from November 3rd to 7th, 2025, the lineup includes a total of seven easy-to-enjoy items, ranging from rice balls to authentic grilled fish. These products are special treats that are not only delicious but also environmentally conscious.

What is “Sustainable Seafood” That Protects Our Future Oceans?

Have you ever heard the term “sustainable fishery”? It refers to fishing practices that are considerate of marine resources and the oceanic environment, ensuring that future generations can continue to enjoy delicious fish. It’s an effort to pass on a bountiful ocean to the future by avoiding overfishing and minimizing the impact on the ecosystem. For this initiative, FamilyMart is focusing on Alaska, a leader in sustainable seafood. Alaska is known as a pioneer, having mandated the sustainable use of its natural resources in its state constitution back in 1959. By following strict, science-based regulations, the state continues to protect its rich marine bounty. As proof of this, the eligible products sold at FamilyMart feature the certified logo of the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) on their packaging.

The Featured Alaskan Seafood Product Lineup

FamilyMart is introducing seven new products that showcase the rich bounty of Alaskan seafood. They can be enjoyed in a variety of settings, from everyday meals to snacks with drinks.

Hand-Rolled Karashi Mentaiko Onigiri

A sustainable choice is now available for onigiri (rice balls), a classic Japanese convenience store staple. This “Hand-Rolled Karashi Mentaiko” is available at stores nationwide for 210 yen (tax included). The spicy pollock roe, with its sharp flavor and hint of kelp umami, is made from the roe of wild Alaskan pollock. The firm texture of the roe pairs perfectly with fluffy rice.

Salt-Grilled, Matured Atka Mackerel

Preparing grilled fish at home can be a hassle, but this product makes it easy to enjoy an authentic flavor. The “Salt-Grilled, Matured Atka Mackerel” is available for 368 yen (tax included). The Alaskan Atka mackerel is first dried and then grilled to concentrate its savory umami flavor. Known for its plump and tender texture, it’s a dish that can be the centerpiece of your dining table. This product is available nationwide, excluding Okinawa Prefecture.

Simmered Rockfish in a Sweet and Savory Sauce

Simmered fish, a staple of Japanese home cooking, can now be easily enjoyed from your local convenience store. The “Simmered Rockfish in a Sweet and Savory Sauce” is priced at 348 yen (tax included). Fatty Alaskan rockfish is gently simmered in a special sweet and savory sauce made from a blend of three types of soy sauce. It offers a comforting, nostalgic flavor that pairs perfectly with a bowl of rice. This item is also available nationwide, excluding Okinawa Prefecture.

Fragrant, Flame-Grilled Sockeye Salmon

Launching on October 28, 2025, is the new “Fragrant, Flame-Grilled Sockeye Salmon.” It will be priced at 458 yen (tax included).
