FamilyMart’s Food Loss Reduction Project! The “Food Loss Rescue Set” Returns for a Limited Time at Over Half Price

FamilyMart, a major convenience store chain in Japan, is expanding its unique initiative to reduce food loss. The “Food Loss Rescue Set,” a collection of food items that are still perfectly good to eat but might otherwise be discarded for various reasons, will be available again in a limited quantity of 200 sets, starting from 10:00 AM on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

This set will be offered through FamilyMart’s official e-commerce site, “Famima Online,” for ¥3,980 (tax and shipping included). Remarkably, this is an incredible deal at less than half the manufacturer’s suggested retail price.

A New Approach to the Food Waste Problem

The “Food Loss Rescue Set” is a popular project sold periodically since April 2025, in collaboration with Kuradashi Co., Ltd., which operates a social contribution-focused shopping site. This initiative, now in its sixth iteration, not only offers consumers a great shopping experience but also plays a role in raising awareness about the growing problem of food loss.

The project has also been highly praised by participating manufacturers. One processed food maker commented, “It’s helpful to be able to sell products with near-expiration dates or discontinued items without damaging our brand image.” A beverage manufacturer added, “We are pleased to be able to make a concrete contribution to solving the food loss problem, which we have long considered an issue.”

Through past sales, it is estimated that this initiative has contributed to reducing approximately 4.7 tons of food loss, demonstrating strong support from many consumers.

What’s Inside the Treasure Box-Like Assortment?

The set contains over 20 items, including processed foods, sweets, and beverages that can be stored at room temperature.

While there is absolutely no issue with the quality of these products, they are items that have become difficult to sell in regular stores for reasons such as approaching expiration dates, minor package damage, or being non-standard. Of course, no expired food is included.

What you’ll get is a surprise until you open it. The contents differ from set to set, so you might discover something new each time.

A portion of the sales from this “Food Loss Rescue Set” will be used for social contribution activities through the “Kuradashi Fund,” established by Kuradashi Co., Ltd. Specifically, the funds are used for activities such as regional revitalization, food bank support, and food education. Being able to easily participate in social contribution while enjoying a great deal is another major appeal of this set.
