The popular game “Kantai Collection -KanColle-” is currently running a special collaboration with the Japanese convenience store chain “Lawson.” This event is exclusive to stores in Kure City, Hiroshima Prefecture—a location famous within the game—and is being held for an extended period from Friday, August 22nd to Monday, December 22nd.
And now, a new line of items will be added to this highly popular collaboration starting from 10:00 AM on Friday, November 29th!
Why Kure? The Deep Connection Between “KanColle” and the City of the Navy
“KanColle” is a hugely popular browser game where players train and strengthen characters called “Kanmusu” (Fleet Girls)—anthropomorphized versions of World War II-era warships—to battle against enemies.
The stage for this collaboration, Kure City, is a port town that once housed the “Kure Naval District,” an important base for the Japanese Navy. A server with the same name exists in the game, and as a place connected to many of the Kanmusu, it is known among fans as a “sacred site.”
This collaboration was planned with the unique concept of a “Strategic Base” to support the game’s players, known as “Admirals” (Teitoku), who visit Kure.
