A Taste of Kansai at Your Convenience Store! FamilyMart Teams Up with a Popular TV Show and Kyoto’s Famous “Marushin Hanten” for a Limited-Edition “Ankake Fried Rice Bento”

The Japanese convenience store, FamilyMart Japan, has once again announced a special collaboration that’s sure to whet our appetites. This time, they’re releasing the “Marushin Hanten Supervised Ankake Fried Rice Bento,” available exclusively in the Kansai region.

This bento box is the second installment of a joint development project with “Yon-chan TV,” a popular television information program from Mainichi Broadcasting System (MBS) in the Kansai region. Following the highly successful first release in October 2025, this edition continues with the common theme of “egg.” This time, it’s supervised by “Marushin Hanten,” a renowned local Chinese diner in Kyoto’s Higashiyama district, famous for its daily long queues.

It will be available starting Tuesday, December 9, 2025. You can find it at approximately 2,600 FamilyMart stores throughout the Kansai region, including Shiga, Kyoto, Osaka, Hyogo, Nara, and Wakayama prefectures, as well as parts of Mie prefecture.

A Hearty, Flavor-Packed Meal That Captures the Essence of a Famous Restaurant

This collaboration is part of FamilyMart’s “Delighting ‘You'” initiative. By partnering with a community-focused television program and a beloved local restaurant, they are creating products that bring smiles to the faces of people in the region.

The new “Marushin Hanten Supervised Ankake Fried Rice Bento” is a dish truly worthy of being called a “jewelry box of Chinese cuisine.”

The price is 554 yen (598 yen including tax).

Naoya Kawata, a well-known announcer from “Yon-chan TV,” also participated in the development of this bento. It is said that the team went through numerous trials to achieve a flavor that satisfied everyone.

The star of the bento is, of course, the fried rice. It’s generously topped with a special thick sauce (an) inspired by the sauce from “Tenshinhan,” a popular dish at the supervising restaurant, Marushin Hanten. This sauce is based on oyster sauce, crafted to bring out a subtle sweetness and a rich umami flavor, and it also contains egg.

Furthermore, it comes with four hearty side dishes (okazu): easy-to-eat pieces of karaage (Japanese fried chicken), a vibrant imitation crab and egg mixture, a texturally pleasing wood ear mushroom and egg mixture, and a perfect palate-cleansing stir-fried green vegetable, making it a very filling meal.

A New Way to Eat: Enjoying “Aji-hen”

A key point of focus for the supervising “Marushin Hanten” was “Aji-hen.” This is a unique aspect of Japanese food culture where one enjoys changing the flavor of a dish as they eat.

First, try savoring the fried rice and side dishes on their own, then try mixing them with the thick sauce. By doing so, a new deliciousness unfolds with every bite. The fact that it has been meticulously calculated to be at its best when heated in a home microwave is a testament to the detailed consideration characteristic of Japanese convenience store bentos.

In this single bento, you can fully appreciate the dedication of a famous restaurant and the passion of the development team.

A Collaboration that Connects the Community

This initiative goes beyond mere product development. Videos about the collaboration are also being shown on “FamilyMartVision,” the digital signage installed in FamilyMart stores, serving a role in revitalizing the community and acting as a hub for information.

What is the Supervising Restaurant, “Marushin Hanten”?

Founded in 1977, “Marushin Hanten” is a long-beloved Chinese restaurant in Kyoto, known by its catchphrase, “The Marushin that never sleeps.” Its continued pursuit of the fundamental principles of food—”to have customers eat delicious food” and “to have them leave with a smile”—has captivated many fans, resulting in constant queues.
